취지: 

인도보팔참사와 인도바이작참사는 1984년 미국기업 다우케미칼(당시 유니언카바이드)에 의해, 2020년 한국기업 엘지화학에 의해 각각 저개발국가의 인구밀집지역인 보팔과 바이작에서 각각 저질러진 공해수출형 기업범죄이자 환경참사입니다. 2024년 12월3일 인도보팔참사 40주년을 계기로 현지활동중 만난 여러국가의 학자, 운동가 및 피해자들이 각각의 관심과 전문영역인 인류학, 지리학, 환경보건학, 피해자운동 등의 관점에서 진행하고 있는 각자의 연구내용을 공유하고 토론하는 세미나를 엽니다. 여러국가의 다학제적 연구활동이 <참사현장연구를 통한 문제해결 기여>라는 공통의 목적에 기여할 것을 기대합니다.

Background: 

The Bhopal and Vizak disasters were caused by the American company Dow Chemical (then Union Carbide) in 1984 and by the Korean company LG Chem in 2020, respectively. These were two environmental disasters, each a corporate crime of exporting pollution and perpetrated in Bhopal and Vizak, two densely populated places in the developing country India, respectively, in 2020. 

Scholars, activists, and victims from various countries, such as France, Italy, Korea, and India, met in Bhopal on December 3, 2024, marking the 40th anniversary of the Bhopal disaster in India.  

At this online seminar, participants will share and discuss their research from their respective fields of interest and expertise, including anthropology, geography, environmental health, sociology, politics, and victim advocacy.

We hope that this multidisciplinary research effort from various countries will contribute to the common goal of "contributing to problem-solving through disaster site research."
